As a lesson in saving money, a class of three-year old preschoolers saved 5 baht every day. By last week the kids had saved 7,000 baht, but then last weekend a thief broke into the school & ran away with every last baht.

Three-year-olds at a child care centre in the eastern province of Trat wereheartbroken to find all the money they had saved in their piggy banks had been stolenover the weekend [ a piggy bank heist ].

The theft occurred on Saturday or Sunday, when the Child Development Centre was closed.

The 27 three-year-olds, with help from their parents, had saved almost 7,000 baht incash between them in their individual piggy banks. It was all gone when they arrived at the centre on Monday.

One of the teachers, Piyanuch Lertrit, said on Tuesday a damaged window showed where the thief had broken in to the building [ burglary ]

In addition to the children's savings, a compact camera worth almost 4,000 baht and two mobile phone chargers were stolen, she added.

The centre had encouraged all the children who attend [the school], including the 27youngsters with the pillaged piggy banks, to save 5 baht every day since the semesterbegan 47 days ago.

The children had put 6,345 baht in theirpiggy banks, and the total was probablyaround 7,000 baht because some parentsalso contributed.

Mrs Piyanuch said all teachers at the centre had agreed to contribute from their ownpockets to make up the money stolen from the children, but some parents decided not to accept it because they understood what had happened.

The local mayor promised to find money in the  municipality budget to install barson all the windows and doors at the centre, to help prevent future thefts

At least the robber did not take the emptied piggy banks as well, and the piggy banksof the two-year-old children were untouched, Mrs Pyanuch said.
Possible moral of the story: Better to keep your money in the bank where it is safe.
