Former Bangkok police chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang has been released fromprison in Japan, where he was arrested for illegal possession of a handgun andammunition at Narita international airport last month, according to national policespokesman Prawut Thawornsiri.
Pol Lt Gen Prawut said on Monday morning he was informed of Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit's release by the Thai embassy in Tokyo.
Japanese prosecutors were expected to decide this morning whether to indict theformer Bangkok police chief, whose second 10-day detention period has come to an end.
Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit was arrested at Narita international airport on June 22 when the weapon, identified as a .22-calibre magnum mini-revolver, was discovered in hiscarry-on baggage as he boarded a flight to Bangkok.
Thai media reports that Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit’s relatives have booked him a flight to Thailand on Tuesday afternoon.
